Art: Freestylee on music and art
Before the Green Bay incident I was already drawing and painting images depicting international struggles for independence taking place in Southern Africa. During the 1970s, many of the Reggae artistes were singing about the fight for freedom in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa. The African Liberation Struggle was ever present in our music.
The Jamaican artist Michael Thompson produces prints and posters about national and international strugges, and he talked to Irie Up about his art, politics and the inspiration behind his work, from his early works rooted in Kingston to his more recent works about the environment, liberation struggles and freedom fighters in all forms and shapes.
